The devil's funeral

In Ireland, it was customary to ring the church bell when someone in the village had died. On Christmas Eve, the local churches would begin ringing their bells about an hour before Midnight Mass began. The death knell was to signal the end of the devil, who was believed to die with the birth of Jesus Christ.
