Growing up in the Philippines I noticed that most of the business owners are Chinese people. I just taught that maybe because they are good in business and they have money that's why they are the ones who mostly owned a lot of business there. After college then landed to have a job in a Chinese owned company I discovered that, aside that they have money they helped each other get a loan from the bank and they have properties that they could guarantee to the banks. The other people who only have the talent and skills to run the business won't have any chance to build his/her business at all.
That's why many people outside USA looked at this country differently, remember the saying "the land of milk and honey" well it's because here in the US if you have the talent and skills the determination to succeed you have the chance to do what you want to do unlike other countries. Here in the US you can find investors and most importantly they can give you financial advice no matter if you are a newbie or professional in the business arena. Even if we are in an economic turmoil there is always a chance for a new business venture and it's never too late to begin just start it now!! ^_^
