Vintage Thingies Thursday: Apple presser and an iron

Last week (Thanksgiving day) I was not able to participate the VTT because I was very busy but I kept on remembering to post VTT this week. So here I am very excited to post can't help it I just love this meme. So what I got this week is...

An apple presser!! I found this one in Porters Orchard and Cider Mill. They displayed this one inside their store so everybody could see how they do an apple juice before all the technology that we now enjoy.

And an Iron! Now I don't know how to work with  this  I looked at it and inspected it,  it seems that there is no opening. I used to iron our clothes back in the Philippines but ours is not as flat like this one. I don't know what year this apple presser and iron could be but I guess they are all vintage. So that is my feature for this VTT week. Enjoy!

I am very familiar with your iron. I have one still today. Just do not use it. I never saw anything like the apple presser.

Hi LV, thanks that somebody recognize the iron ^_^

I had an antique shop so I certainly know about the iron. Usually the woman would have a couple of them and they were heated by the fire. She would pick it up with of course a pot holder or something to protect her hand, and iron the sprinkled clothes with it till it got too cool then she would trade it for the second one that was getting hot by the fire.

I think that is the kind of iron that was heated on a stove.

My Mum used to use flatirons like that because we had no electricity in Outback Australia.
I have never seen one since those days.

The apple presser is very unique. I love the look of it and the faded out lettering on the front. Great VTT items.

Wow! I've never seen an apple press quite like that one! Great!

The iron was simply heated up on a burner of the wood burning stove...and I think I hate ironing!

How fun to see something I have NEVER seen before...an apple presser....what a great thing to find....have you tried it? Have a great VTT!

What treasures! That apple press is gorgeous. We have some flat irons too, but yours looks so dainty. You know what the best use for those irons is? Pair it with a tack hammer and use them to crack hickory nuts or any other sort of nuts...better than a nutcracker!!

That apple presser is such a great looking piece! And the iron is wonderful with that red trim. I think it was heated on the top of an old stove, way back then. Those old irons are so heavy, I think women back then got big muscles from using them!
Happy VTT!

That iron is frightening to think about using! I would scald everything! Happy VTT.

very cool apple press. And I remember watching one of my grandmothers iron with those irons. She heated them up on her kitchen (wood) stove.

I've had cider from an apple press much like this. And I find I am in the market for old laundry stuff like your iron...very nice.

Can you imagine having to iron that way! Yikes, it's bad enough with the fancy electric steam irons we have now.

I've never seen an apple presser but I think it's pretty nifty. Would maybe make a unique plant holder. Thank you for visiting junkblossoms! I hope you'll visit again soon. Happy VTT.

We've pressed apples for cider for years; it's always great tasting! Even after sitting in the refrigerator for a year...yummy!

Glad Shirly filled you in on how the old flat irons worked--pretty simple, and I still remember Grandma keeping them hot on the old woodstove in the kitchen...
